Ashura 2024 in Pakistan: Expected Dates and Observance Details

Ashura, the significant day in the Islamic calendar that commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), and his companions, is set to be observed with deep respect across Pakistan.

This year dates for Ashura are likely to be on July 16 and 17, falling on a Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Muharram, which is not only a period of mourning but also marks the beginning of the Islamic new year, is expected to start on July 8 in Pakistan. If the month starts as likely, Youm-e-Ashur 2024, or the Day of Ashura, will be observed on July 17.

During this time, it is traditional for mourning processions to take place in cities and towns throughout the country, as communities come together to remember and honor the martyrdom at Karbala.

Traditionally, the federal government declares public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, allowing people to fully participate in the observance of Ashura. This tradition is expected to continue in 2024, providing a time for reflection and remembrance of the sacrifices made for the preservation of Islam.

These observances play a crucial role in the cultural and spiritual life of Pakistan, reinforcing values of courage, loyalty, and steadfast faith amid adversities.
